Site Rules
Read our site rules and community guidelines for MyMangaIndex platform.
Last Updated: September 2, 2025
If you need to contact staff, you can do so on our Contact page or through our community forums.
Content Restrictions
1. Only titles that are in the comic styles of Japanese, Korean, Chinese or of similar Asian origin are allowed. Exceptions can be made for self-published comics in a similar style originally created in other languages if you contact MyMangaIndex staff beforehand.
2. Only community-contributed information, translations metadata, and database entries are allowed to be uploaded. Original manga chapters, scans of physical official releases, or rips of digital official releases/webcomics from official sources are not allowed to be uploaded.
2.1 The only exemptions to this rule are when:
- Permission has been granted by the publisher and/or creator;
- The uploader is the publisher;
- The license has expired;
- The series is out of print;
- The publisher is defunct; or
- The release can no longer be purchased via sources provided by the publisher.
2.2 Releases qualifying under the previously mentioned exemptions should be clearly documented when uploaded and are treated as special cases for the purpose of all rules.
3. Database entries may not be created in any of the following situations:
- If an entry already exists for the same work (duplicate entries are not allowed)
- If the work does not meet our content criteria for manga, manhwa, manhua, or similar Asian comics
- If the entry contains fraudulent, misleading, or intentionally incorrect information
- If the work is primarily text-based without visual comic elements
4. Both using existing database information as the basis of improvements and creating comprehensive entries from multiple sources are generally allowed, as long as there is a significant improvement in accuracy, completeness, or data quality.
5. Joke or troll entries are not allowed, except on April 1st.
These entries will be collected and moved to a separate section after April 1st has ended.
6. Users who have restricted editing permissions can be requested by community members to be marked as inactive by contacting MyMangaIndex staff if the user has had no contributions for 6 months on the platform. MyMangaIndex staff will attempt to contact the user to notify them about the inactivity request and will continue to wait another 2 months from the request before marking the user as inactive.
6.1 A user that is marked as inactive will have their content contribution restrictions lifted to allow for community improvements of any entries they may have been working on.
6.2 Should an inactive user resume contributing content consistently, normal permissions can be restored.
6.3 A user that has publicly announced their departure from the platform does not qualify for the wait period and will be immediately marked as inactive upon community request.
7. Information from sources that adopt excessive profiteering techniques or restrict access to manga database information is discouraged. Examples include, but are not limited to: adblock-blockers, hidden redirects, clickjackers, pop-ups and pop-unders.
Title Entry Guidelines
Title Creation
- Do not add duplicate entries. Search for multiple alternate titles to confirm it doesn't exist yet before adding a series. Check your language and content filters to make sure you're not inadvertently hiding the work.
- If there happen to be multiple distinct entries with the same title, do not add anything to distinguish them, such as "(Author name)". Use the actual title as it is.
- Oneshots that were published in an anthology should be included in the respective anthology entry and should not have their own entries.
- A single-chapter oneshot that has been serialized should have its own entry which is linked to the serialized entry using the "Serialization/Pre-Serialization" relation.
- Chapters that have been colored from a monochrome version should be uploaded under a separate entry that must be tagged as "Official/Fan Colored", have "(Official/Fan Colored)" appended to the main title and include a "Colored" relation to the main title.
Title Metadata
- The description should only contain a description of the title. Place links and other details in their appropriate locations. Links should lead to primary sources, such as the artist or publisher's page for the series.
- The content rating for a series is based on the highest level of content in the series. In general, entries that contain explicit content should be marked as such, entries with suggestive content as appropriate.
- The publication status refers to the status of publication in the country of origin, not the availability status of the title on various platforms.
- For Japanese manga, the demographic is based on the established target demographic of the magazine a series is published in regardless of the title's content. If the series is not published in a magazine, leave the field blank.
- Genre and theme tags should be added only if the tag is a representation of the title as a whole, not just appearing in a single chapter.
Cover Art
File Format
- File type: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
- Portrait orientation preferred.
- Use the highest resolution available (minimum 300px × 450px).
Cover Selection
- All cover art should be unmodified and not translated by users. Officially translated covers can be uploaded, and must be tagged with the correct language.
- All titles must have a main cover.
- The main cover should be one of the covers in the original language that the series was published in.
- Use a cover image of a later volume, unless it either doesn't represent the overall art style and theme of the comic, or has major spoilers.
- If no cover art exists, you may use one of the first pages of the first chapter as the cover.
Naming Conventions
- The language set for a title should reflect the official or officially localized name for that language region.
- Use appropriate title case for formatting titles in their respective languages.
- Only add official titles, official abbreviations, romanizations, or full proper translations as titles.
- Loan words are to be as they are in their original respective language. For example: "異世界ライフ" to "Isekai Life".
User Guidelines
User Levels
MyMangaIndex employs a four-tier user hierarchy to maintain data quality:
- Level 1 (Administrator): Platform operators with complete permissions
- Level 2 (Moderator): Trusted community members who can approve edits from lower levels
- Level 3 (Editor): Experienced users who can add and edit information with minimal oversight
- Level 4 (Contributor): New users whose edits require approval from higher-level users
Content Guidelines
- Fill in all the available information accurately.
- If information is not available, do not add placeholder or made-up data.
- Don't add your own descriptors to any field unless they are official.
- Use official information sources whenever possible.
- When creating entries, select all the appropriate categories and contributors.
- If you do not know who created specific content, do not upload incomplete information.
Code of Conduct
- Misidentifying yourself as MyMangaIndex staff will result in a ban.
- MyMangaIndex does not condone harassment of users or groups. Be respectful and professional in all interactions.
- Do not report any entries for personal preferences or subjective quality issues. These reports will be ignored and your ability to make reports may be restricted.
- The use of multiple accounts is permitted but not guaranteed protection. Using alternative accounts for rule-breaking or evading moderator action may lead to moderator action against all of your accounts.
- Abusing any features of the website (such as titles, user profiles, reports or images) for the purpose of advertising, trolling, or other malicious behavior will result in a ban.
- Data standardization of MyMangaIndex content metadata is solely decided by MyMangaIndex staff. Adding or editing content metadata en masse with the purpose of pushing some personal kind of formatting or standardization will result in moderator action and the restriction of your editing privileges.
- The usage of automated tools for mass uploading and especially editing is highly discouraged due to the increased likelihood of compounding mistakes. Users are responsible for fixing problems they cause or risk the restriction of their editing privileges.
- Avoid edit wars. If another user edits an entry to something different from what you had previously edited and you disagree with their edit, do not change it back, and instead notify MyMangaIndex staff by using the report function.
Note: An edit war may result in an entry being restricted to edits by MyMangaIndex staff only.
