KOF '96 is set to take place, and Athena, the shadow stirring behind the scenes, has a nightmare and rushes to Kyou's side. However, Kyou was hospitalized after being defeated by a powerful opponent who never showed themself. Daimon Gorou and Nikaidou Benimaru come to visit him. After an argument, the Japanese team disintegrated in mid-air and Nikaidou Benimaru teamed up with Vice and Yagami Iori. The players then gathered in Japan at the venue from all over the country.
