Nakamura, a new Shinjuku station attendant, is always cheerful and kind, but a screw-up. Rationalist Chief Isoyama is not happy with him and wants to send him to Iwate, but the stationmaster refuses to budge and says he will let him "participate in the creation of an ideal station".

Then the news of the breakdown of the automatic ticket gate comes in. Nakamura stands at the ticket gate and demonstrates his brilliant handiwork, despite Isoyama's dismay.
