Synopsis

(from ebookjapan):

Night. A man is alone, sheltering from the rain on a dreary street corner. He lights a cigarette. Suddenly, an old man wearing sunglasses, who had been there for some time, approached him and asked, "Can I borrow your light?" The two stood in silence, smoking cigarettes, when the man suddenly realized that the old man with the sunglasses had once been in the same place as him.

The man realized that the old man with the sunglasses was the same " Kamikaze Sabu" who had once made a name for himself in this town. The man's heart was pounding in his chest, but he couldn't ask the old man about it. (From the title story, "Legend of the Wolf")

This is a masterpiece collection of short stories by Tadao Tsuge, a master of Gekiga, depicting the intense lives of men crawling around with a melancholy yet somehow gentle gaze.
