Heiwa-hen Dankon

The title story of this collection of Osamu Akimoto's pre-debut works is about the Vietnam War.

"The Last Sniper" is a story about an old man—a former Japanese soldier—who accepts a sniper contract to pay for the medical expenses of a sick little girl he knows.

Both of these stories take a highly serious route and have a somewhat gritty, gekiga art style. But honestly... they aren't very interesting.

On the other hand, Tonari no Kin-chan (My Neighbor Kin-chan) is a rom-com featuring a protagonist who feels like a direct predecessor to KochiKame.
